Summertime can be challenging for all families but especially for those with children with exceptionalities. If this resonates with you, you’re likely thinking about it 𝘯𝘰𝘸. Below is a list of ideas and/or resources to check out in our area:

Summer camps: Carobell (located in Hubert) offers a summer camp to school-aged children! Must have a current psychological evaluation to attend. They are still enrolling for Spring Break as well.

Victory Junction is another great one to look into for overnights!

Did you know the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores has a sensory area? It’s incredible! They are also accepting and nurturing of volunteers with Autism and IDD!

Swansboro Parks and Rec, in partnership with the Down’s Syndrome Network, offers FREE music therapy classes once per month and our accessible park has many options, including the splash pad.

Don’t rule out story time and crafts at Onslow County Public Library! They have great programs to encourage readers and opportunities for socialization. We absolutely love our Swansboro branch! B and I are avid readers and he is incentivized by their rewards program. We recently won the winter challenge (pictured below).

The Crystal Coast Autism Center organizes evening social skills groups throughout the year.

While this is not a comprehensive list, you can always message me and I’ll share any info that I have!
