The holiday season is here, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to capture moments that warm your heart. This year, one of my favorite Christmas mini sessions featured a mother and her adult daughter, along with their beloved family dog. It was a session filled with laughter, love, and the kind of magic that only the holidays can bring.
A Special Kind of Bond
From the moment they walked into the studio, you could feel the connection between the mother and daughter. They laughed easily, finishing each other’s sentences, and their shared excitement was contagious. The love in the room was undeniable, and that’s the beauty of these sessions. It’s about more than just photos. It’s about creating a lasting print together, celebrating the bond they share. Knowing that no matter where they go - this bond is preserved.
“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
We kept the backdrop simple—a classic holiday scene featuring my great grandmother's velvet settee and a rustic barn backdrop. Sometimes, the simplest setups bring out the most authentic smiles. As the mother and daughter sat together, the dog nestled comfortably between them, the scene came to life. It was natural and effortless, and that’s what makes these sessions so magical.
At one point, the duo were laughing, and the dog, not wanting to be left out, leaned in for a kiss too. It was one of those spontaneous moments you couldn’t plan if you tried. The joy on their faces, the soft glow of the holiday lights—it all came together in a way that felt like pure Christmas magic.
As we talked between shots, they shared how this session was important to them due to living across country from each other. Every year, they carve out time to do something special together—whether it’s baking cookies, decorating the tree, or taking photos like these. Mom visits flies in to NC several time a year to make sure they keep traditions alive. This session was a new way to create memories they could look back on for years to come. There were a lot of happy tears around the studio.
Hearing their story reminded me why I love doing what I do. These aren’t just pictures; they’re pieces of a family’s story. They’re the kind of memories that hang on the walls or sit on the mantel, bringing a smile long after the holidays are over.
Christmas mini sessions aren’t just about the photos—they’re about making time to slow down and celebrate what matters most. Whether it’s a mother and daughter, a young family with energetic toddlers, or grandparents with their grandchildren, these sessions capture the love and connection that make the holidays special.
If you’ve been thinking about booking a session but aren’t sure, let this be your nudge.
