Senior photos are a big deal! They capture a once-in-a-lifetime moment—the transition from high school to whatever comes next. But not every senior feels excited about stepping in front of the camera. Some feel awkward, others don’t know how to pose, and a few just don’t think they’re “photogenic” (trust me, everyone is photogenic in the right light!). My job isn’t just to take pictures—it’s to make sure seniors feel comfortable, confident, and like themselves in their photos.

Before we even pick up the camera, I take the time to get to know my seniors. I ask questions about their interests, hobbies, and future plans. Do they play sports? Love music? Have a passion for art? The more I know about them, the better I can tailor the session to reflect who they are. I want their photos to feel like them, not just another staged photoshoot.

Where we take photos sets the tone for the whole session. If a senior loves the beach, we head to the shore for a sunset session. If they feel most at home in a coffee shop or bookstore, we incorporate those cozy vibes. The right location can make a senior feel more comfortable and bring out their natural personality without them even realizing it!

I always tell my seniors to wear something they feel good in. If they love jeans and a casual tee, we roll with that! If they’re more into flowy dresses or bold fashion statements, we embrace it. When seniors wear outfits that reflect their style, they automatically feel more at ease, which shows in their photos. Don't be afraid to bring more than one outfit! One of the biggest reasons people feel awkward in photos is because they’re stuck in stiff, unnatural poses. I ditch the forced smiles and awkward stances in favor of movement. Whether it’s a quick spin, a natural laugh, or just walking while chatting, movement helps shake off nerves and creates genuine, natural-looking photos.

Bringing a personal touch to the session makes all the difference. I encourage seniors to bring something that represents them—a soccer ball, a guitar, a favorite book, even their dog! These little details not only help tell their story but also give them something to focus on, making the whole experience feel less like a photoshoot and more like a fun day doing what they love.

I make sure my sessions feel like hanging out with a friend, not a formal photoshoot. I play music, crack jokes, and give plenty of encouragement along the way. If a senior is feeling especially nervous, we take breaks, talk things through, and ease into it until they feel comfortable. Sometimes seniors don’t believe how great they look until they see it. I love showing a few back-of-the-camera previews so they can see how amazing they’re doing. Once they realize they look incredible, they relax and enjoy the session even more!

The Final Result: A Session That Feels Like You

My goal is to capture the real you—not a stiff, posed version of yourself, but the personality, energy, and excitement that make this season of life special. Whether you’re outgoing or more reserved, we’ll work together to make sure your senior photos feel authentic, natural, and 100% you.
