"He will grow out of it."
Eek! I heard this many times when B was younger. My gratitude to those who have been supportive and lended a listening ear through his ASD journey. However, this particular phrase is not helpful to a parent (or #autistic individual) as they walk this journey. Maybe someone’s said that to you?
Instead, I’d love for you to know: he/she 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 grow out of it, mama, but it 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 be different.
It may get better.
You will get better. Your resilience will grow along with your strength.
His/her coping skills will change.
Communication styles may change.
And while each stage may bring a different challenge, you will learn along the way.
Build yourself a support system and find your people that will listen without judgment and can offer constructive advice. Advocate for what you believe to be best and give yourself some grace.
